I'm sure we didn't see anywhere near all there was on board. Golf courses, ice rink, climbing walls, surfing machine, tennis courts, casino, theatre of course the obligatory swimming pools, bars, shops and restaurants.

It was truly fantastic, we had a lovely cabin with a balcony and once we checked in we unpacked and went exploring, starting at the top on the 14th floor which was a bar.

A few cocktails later, we wandered around the ship stopping occasionally for a drink at various bars before going back to our cabin to get changed for dinner.

The food was superb and after dinner there was a fantastic fireworks display that must have cost a small fortune.

We sat in the Schooner bar for the rest of the night being entertained by a mad Chinese bloke, who was really funny and made us laugh like drains for about 2 hours.

Finally at around 2am we went to bed, sadly we had to be up and off the ship by 9am, which was a trifle early for me but we did make it on time and made our way home.

If you can afford it, the Freedom of the Seas is an incredible ship and has so many amenities you will never be bored!

Oops It's Been Over A Month

since my last blog. Sadly for me nothing terribly exciting has happened, the usual mundane stuff with two exceptions.

The first was a girlie night with my friend Carol who lives in Bucks. I was staying at her place and we had wine and Chinese and spent the entire evening laughing like drains. T'was much fun and definitely needed.

The second was playing in a live poker tourney in Didcot, a charity thing which was designed to make you hand over as much of your hard earned as possible which of course I did :o( the good thing about the tourney was that I got to meet my friend Paul and his lovely wife and kids oh and dog. Sadly another friend that we were both going to meet up with didn't show, which was a shame.

Nonetheless it was only my second live tourney and although I didn't finish in the money, it was still good experience for me.

Peace And Quiet At Last

So the kids are finally back at school after half term and I get to have some time to myself :D Don't get me wrong, I love having them at home, but after a week of them and their friends, who always seem to congregate at my house and eat me out of house and home, by the end of a week I'm ready for them to go back to school again.

So I have been visiting friends for coffee and shopping (notice how I avoid the decorating which needs to be done) and really just catching up with my mates.

Next week I am going to start running and yes Paul I know you have probably fallen off your chair reading this , but my aim is to run at least 3 times this coming week, so i will keep you updated.

Oh by the way, James was Henry II in his school assembly on Friday, which Nigel and I both attended, mainly because it was a great opportunity to embarrass him in front of his friends (my sole aim in life now :P)

Actually he was really good in it and delivered his words perfectly making me a proud mummy :D

Today (Saturday) Nigel took Katie out for breakfast , kind of a Saturday morning ritual for the two of them, and they returned with a lovely bouquet of flowers for me. First stop was M & S to bring back some stuff I'd bought Julie for her birthday (which was yesterday by the way) and to change the size of a couple of bits.

While I was there I found a pair of trousers reduced from £39 to £19 - a bargain!!! I also bought a few other bits and pieces.

A quick sarnie and a latte in Marks and we were off to Debenhams, which is where the fun started....

So they had a sale on in Debenhams mainly 20% off but there were some 30% and 50% off things too. Julie found a couple of jumpers in the menswear section that had "50% off the ticket price for today only"on them. Now the price on the ticket had been marked down from £30 to £15 with £15 written on the ticket in red, so as far as we were concerned the price to pay today was £7.50. She picked up 2 jumpers and went to pay.

The price shown at the till was £15 so we queried it and when we explained the young lady agreed and gave us the jumpers for £7.50 so we thought cool that was a bargain and went upstairs to the ladies section.

We picked up a few bits up there and then Julie found a red wrapover top that had the same ticket as before, was originally £15 and was marked as £7.50 on the ticket and so we expected to pay £3.75 for it just like before.

However, the girls on the till weren't as accommodating and despite us explaining ourselves very clearly and telling them that the same thing had happened downstairs, there was no budging them, so we asked to see the manager.

The only manager available happened to be the menswear manager and eventually he arrived on the first floor and instead of admitting that perhaps there had been some mistake labeling, he was a complete jobsworth and refused to accept what we were saying.

So by this time it was the principle of the thing (Julie would have happily paid £7.50 for the top btw) and as he appeared to be a snotty nosed 20 year old we took great delight in telling him that someone from his department had already sold us the jumpers having agreed with us. His face was a picture!!!!

Anyway Julie mentioned trading standards and asked if we could have one of the labels but he refused saying they were debenhams property but agreed to me taking some pics with my phone - which I won't bore you with by the way.

So the upshot is Julie is going to contact trading standards tomorrow and see what they have to say. So watch this space!!

My final great bit of bargain hunting was in BHS where I bought a belt which I thought was going to be £10 but was reduced to £2.50 :D

Retail therapy is always soooooooooooo good for the soul!!!!!

My Week In Vegas

So having disposed of the kids late Monday night, we got up at some ungodly hour on Tuesday morning (6am is definitely ungodly to me!!!) the cab arrived at 7am to take us to Gatwick airport.

The cab driver turned out to be an old friend of my sisters, which was rather weird, so i chatted to him for most of the journey.

Eventually we arrived at Gatwick, checked in and proceeded to duty free, where we shopped, had breakfast and then had to leg it for the plane :$

The flight went by really quickly probably due to the fact I slept for about 6 hours of the 10 hour journey time :D

We arrived in Vegas only to find our limo was nowhere in sight so Nigel had to call the hotel to get them to send it and finally after a 30 minute wait he turned up and drove us to the Rio where we were spending the first part of our week away.

There was lots going on in the Rio and apart from daily free floor shows which were pretty good, they also had Penn and Teller performing there which we went to see. They were very funny and very entertaining and I recommend them if you are ever in Vegas.

I played my first live poker tourney in the Rio while I was there and although I didn't come in the money I didn't disgrace myself coming around 30th out of about 80 starters. Nigel on the other hand finished 4th and in the money :D

Lots of shopping and eating and chatting to my babies on msn. They stuck the web cam on at mum's which was cool cos it meant I got to see them :D:D:D

On the Friday we changed hotels and stayed at the Green Valley Ranch which is a little bit away from the strip but a lovely hotel with lots of amenities.

We met up with our friend Jesse and he introduced us to some other friends of his, one of whom is a high roller and who had the most enormous suite at the hotel I've ever seen! He was having a bbq to which we were invited which was fantastic - there was soooooooo much food that we hardly made a dent in it :$

The following night it was a trip to Circus Circus casino. The casino is pretty grim but they have a superb steak restaurant there and we met up with Jesse and some of his old college mates, 12 of them all in Vegas for the Superbowl. It was a fun evening with lots of banter around the table, I was a little worried I'd feel a bit left out being the only girlie but that wasn't the case at all.

Sunday was Superbowl day so we relaxed during the day and it was back to the enormous suite for a superbowl party and more food and drink. Sadly my team failed to win but a good time was had by all!

Monday was going home day, so we packed all of the presents we'd bought along with what we'd arrived with and set off to the airport with Jesse, who was on the same flight as us but sadly in economy so we didn't see him once we were onboard the plane.

I managed to get a little bit of sleep on the way back, but not a lot. There was a bit of turbulence which kept waking me up but otherwise the flight was ok.

Then when we landed it was a mad rush to get home so I could see my mum and dad before they went off to Spain that afternoon for a month. We picked 2 excited kids up from school, who gave us loads of hugs and kisses and then asked what we'd bought them :S

All in all I had a great time and met a load of new and interesting people and spent loads of money :D

How Remiss Of Me

not to have updated my blog sooner! I would like to say its been hectic but if truth be told I think I have just been a bit lazy! :$:$

So, James, my ickle boy has been walking to school and on friday I let him get the bus home on his own (its the first time he's been on a bus on his own) I think I must have phoned him 10 times during his short journey home, but his little face was a picture when I opened the front door and found him standing there beaming from ear to ear and then talking nineteen to the dozen about his fantastic journey home "it was so cool mum" "we had to run for the bus.......I thought we'd never make it" He was sooooooo excited bless him!

I also let him go to meet some friends by bus on Saturday, yet another milestone completed!!

Now those of you who read my blog will know that my other half has been working hard (cough) on a poker cruise in the Caribbean and while he was away I was going to do some decorating sadly it kinda never really happened, so I am going to have some explaining to do tomorrow when he gets back!! Any good excuses gratefully received! :P

Next week I'm away myself. I am going to Las Vegas for a week with no kids..... yippee!!! While I am there I'm going to a superbowl party as well as partaking of the usual delights Las Vegas has to offer and hopefully will come home richer, but I won't be holding my breath on that one!

That's me just about up to date methinks. Hopefully I'll find time to write another post before I go.

One Nervous Wreck

Today was the first day my 12 year old son went to school on his own and although he was excited, I was a nervous wreck!!

I have let him go to the shops (a five minute walk) for me and he does have a mobile, but this was the longest distance he'd been allowed to go on his own.

It wasn't helped by the fact that my other half is in Miami for two weeks "working" on a poker cruise, and so I couldn't talk to him about it (was a last minute decision last night)

So this morning James went off to school. He wasn't allowed to wear his Arsenal hat just in case he ran into any boys who were rival supporters, and yes i know I'm a paranoid mother, but you just never know! I gave him the usual advice (well, orders if truth be told) be careful crossing the road, don't speak to anyone you don't know, if you are uncomfortable about anything just call me and I'll come and get you and DON'T forget to ring me when you get to school!

I kissed him goodbye and off he went, my little man, all on his own, making his way to school. I made Katie get ready super quick and told her we were going to drive the way James goes to school "just in case it's taken him longer than he thought it would and so that he wouldn't be late for school."

Sadly for me Katie is wise beyond her seven years and questioned me the whole way there, but just as I got to where I thought James might have got to, he phoned me to say he was at school.

Immediately relief swept over me and I think I visibly relaxed because Katie said "It's ok mummy he's safe. Now will you PLEASE take me to school!!!" :$:$:$

It was so much easier when they were babies!!

Full Of Christmas Cheer (literally)

So since my last post I have eaten for England. God only knows how much weight I have put on this last week or so. I even promised myself I wouldn't go mad but sadly my willpower is non existent - how I gave up smoking 8 years ago is beyond me! Anyway the diet starts 1st January and I'm going to start running as soon as the kids go back to school.

The award for buying the most played with christmas present must go to my Mum who bought my 6 year old nephew Danny a £1.99 whoopee cushion (self inflating, no having to blow it up every time rubbish!!) as part of his christmas pressie. He played with it all day at Mum's, we knew exactly where he was in the house by listening for a certain noise, then he went to his other grandparent's house and drove them mad too - no other pressie got a look in!!!!

Anyway I had a lovely christmas with my family and hope everyone who reads this did too!

Just in case I don't get round to another post this year - Happy New Year!

The Thame Christmas Lights

Today I took the kids to see my auntie and uncle in Thame. They are both very sweet and always really go to town at christmas with decorating their house. The kids love going there, although to be fair James who is 12 did find it a little boring, methinks as he is at that inbetween age, not really a kid but not really an adult - poor soul - I can remember that stage in my life, kids were boring but so were adults and apart from kids your own age you didn't seem to fit in!

Anyway I reckon my auntie has trebled the Thame electricity supply all on her own with the number of lights and flashing santas and fibre optic things standing and hanging inside and outside her house. As lovely as it looks it must cost her a small fortune to run them all.

So we went for lunch which was really nice and then she brought out enough desserts to feed a small army instead of the few that were there. Mum and another of my aunts who I'd taken had had a couple of glasses of wine and mum nearly fell asleep - bless her she's not used to drinking let alone afternoon drinking!!!

We made our excuses around 4pm and headed off for the M40 to wend our way home!

I then made the really big mistake of going to M & S for a "few bits" and one and a half hours later and £70 lighter in the purse department I finally made my way home!

Oh well, thank goodness christmas is only once a year!!!

Eating Out

So I don't often get to eat out. To be honest, the kids get bored so more often than not if I can't be asked to cook we'll get a take away. Sunday I met up with my friend Carol, who lives in Aylesbury, at a carvery in Watford, being more or less halfway for both of us. We had a great time and appeared to be the noisiest in the place, cackling away as usual. The food was excellent, I seemed to eat double of what Carol ate, although to be fair my plate did have loads of veggies on it and Carol "if it's green I don't eat it" had only carrots on hers.

Then last night we took the kids out for a meal with my in-laws to another carvery which was nice but the food wasn't as good as the Watford one and my rhubarb crumble had more crumble than fruit which was a little disappointing, but the kids seemed to enjoy it. Katie was delighted when she was handed two christmas cracker as we left.

Anyway my conclusion is that carveries are like the 182 bus nothing for ages and then 2 come along one after the other!!

Blimey It Has Been A While

since my last post. Well, for anyone who's interested I'm still a bit poorly. I managed to get sinusitis last week my doctor kindly gave me some antibiotics (bloomin huge things they were) and now I'm left with a hacking cough and sounding like I chain smoke ten cigarettes at the same time!!

So I've just about completed my christmas shopping, which is just as well because James broke up from school last friday and Katie finishes today.

Yesterday I got in my last bit of "Sharon pampering" and had my nails done after which I went to buy my christmas pressie from my other half (and yes I am that perfect a woman that I don't even make him have to think of something and then go out and buy it) so I went to Runnersworld in Rayners Lane as I'm going to start running in the new year and consulted Paul my running guru who advised me to get proper running shoes from a proper running shop so I did!

I have to say they were really friendly and helpful in Runnersworld. The very nice assistant who looked after me checked my feet so she knew exactly how much support I needed and where. I tried on four pairs of shoes and settled on a pair of Brooks Vapor 6 (and yes I know we spell it vapour)

So having bought the present , oh and paid for it (something wrong there!!!) I figure the least he can do is wrap it!

For anyone that's wondering, I buy my own pressie cos that way I know I'm gonna get something I want unlike the set of feather dusters he once bought me as a pressie!!!!

Poor Me

So this week I've been feeling very sorry for myself as I'm still not well and ended up going to the doctors today to get some antibiotics.

I haven't been sleeping very well, mainly cos I can't breathe and to be honest I'm fed up smelling of karvol capsules so I kinda stopped using them. I actually managed to get off to sleep Sunday night only to be woken at 6 by the oil refinery explosion. James was also woken by it and thought it was Katie falling out of bed. Anyway, I managed to get back to sleep for a few more hours thank goodness.

So my other half is now back from his travels and he has promised me some TLC. Do you think he means a box of maltesers!! :D

What Is It With Spaghetti?

Tonight I cooked spaghetti bolognaise, but why is it whenever I cook spaghetti I have this uncontrollable urge to add more than I need! As we drove into the car park (one of those spiral ramp affairs) Mum told me that the last time she went to Watford with Dad he had managed to scrape his car on the ramp wall. He'd given some excuse or other like all men do in these situations and she said that she'd not said a word but had spent the whole day smiling to herself :D Us girlies know the kind of stress we'd have received if we'd have scraped the car!!

So Mum and I were merrily shopping away and about to find somewhere for lunch when I received the dreaded phone call from Katie's school to say she was as white as a sheet and could I come and get her :( (she's fine by the way) so shopping trip cut short yet again!!! I did have stuff I wanted to do, but she really wanted to see it so I said yes.

We went to the 8pm performance, why they say 8pm is beyond me because the film never starts then. You have to sit through half an hour of crap local adverts, then the normal cinema ones and finally trailers for up coming films.

Anyway, the film was really good - funny and sad in places and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised because I thought I would be bored to tears, but Dame Judi Dench was brilliant and Bob Hoskins was fantastic too. One of the good things about it was (and I'm not one for musicals) although it was about a theatre and had lots of songs in it, you didn't feel like you'd watched a musical if that makes any sense, mainly because I don't think we ever got to see a whole song.

I have to say it's probably more of a girlie movie than one for the blokes, but both Mum and I really enjoyed it.

It's Been A While

So it's been a few days since my last blog, five days in fact, and the main reason being that I've been a poorly girl :-( I've a dose of this flu thing that's going around, luckily not as bad as my poor friend Sam (shopping buddy) who's been laid up in bed with it since last Wednesday and is still not at all well.

On Friday I went to a funeral with my Mum (no one close to us luckily) we went to support the family. In my little car, which I drove from one side of London to the other, was me, my Mum and a bloody huge mirror which took over the whole of the back of the car. Just the sort of thing you'd normally take to a funeral - not! Only my Mum could deliver a mirror to a funeral!

So, and there is a connection to me being unwell here somewhere, the wake was in a pub and I assumed it had been too smoky and that was why I had a really sore throat, sadly it wasn't to be and by Saturday I felt extremely rough. This was not a good thing as I was going out to a golf dinner and dance that night.

I dosed myself up with paracetamol and got ready, we had to be there for 7, it was a complete disaster. The meal was chicken, which I don't eat but I'm not a vegetarian, so another meal had been arranged for me. "are you the vegetarian madam?" "no I just don't eat chicken" "oh we were told you were vegetarian" Now what you have to understand is that I'm not a lover of vegetarian dishes, I'm a 'meat and 2 veg' kind of gal so when I was presented with my dinner which was a pastry thing with mushrooms (which I detest even more than chicken) you'll appreciate that I wasn't a happy bunny. So she took it away and came back with stuffed peppers, another thing I don't eat! In the end I had a plate of vegetables - dry vegetables as they didn't have any gravy they could give me.

So that was my exciting dinner which went down really well with a sore throat. Anyway to cut a long story short we were home and I was tucked up in bed with a hot water bottle by 10pm and have felt pretty rough since, although I am slowly getting better you'll be pleased to hear.

My (hopefully) Last Visit To the Dentist For a While

So as you may know having read a previous post of mine, that I have spent quite a bit of time at the dentist recently so today was no exception. I had to go and have two fillings replaced as they had cracked, one on each side of my mouth at the top. This meant an injection in both sides of my mouth resulting in an almost completely numb face, apart from my chin!!

The procedure was fine except by the end of it I felt like I was wearing someone else's teeth, kinda like breaking them in for a friend!! So when I got back to the car I immediately looked in the mirror to inspect it all and to see how grotesque I looked when I smiled.

Now normally you only have one side of your mouth numb when you have a filling done and so when you smile you have this lopsided thing going on however, when you are numb on both sides I guess it must be like having botox done because when I looked in the mirror and smiled the face looking back at me was grimacing. I looked like I was baring my teeth much in the way dog does and no I'm not calling myself a dog thank you very much just using it to explain the look on my face :)

Anyway, thankfully it's worn off now although my lips are still tingling and I only had the injections 12 hours ago :S

Fingers crossed for no more trips there for another 6 months!

I've Been A Bad Blogger

So I must apologise to anyone to reads my blog that I haven't updated it for a few days and so I will try to fill you in on the extremely exciting things that have been happening in my life since Sunday.

Monday was spent recovering from the after effects and clearing up after James's sleepover. I found popcorn in the most unusual places like under the mattress, behind the toilet - I don't even want to think about how it got there, even in my bedroom and none of the boys went in there! So apart from popcorn finding and boring household chores nothing much really happened.

Tuesday we were late for school as usual :$ I was literally throwing kids and bags and lunchboxes out of the car in a vain attempt to make it on time. Sadly I have to get to two schools that start 5 minutes apart but are 15 minutes apart distance wise, so what with two different lots of school traffic and the odd refuse truck or 3 (who by the way seem to have a problem with parking at the side of the road and insist on stopping bang in the middle of the road for its entire length which really bugs me!!!!!!) the chances of me getting them both to school on time is pretty low!

Anyway, in the evening I went to the cinema to see Kiss Kiss Bang Bang with my Mum (as recommended by my friend Paul) it was really funny and even though there were only about 8 people in the cinema watching it we all laughed like drains. I did have to tell my mum to keep it down every so often as she forgets she's at the cinema sometimes and starts to recount tales of her friends as though we were sitting in her lounge! But I definitely recommend the film as one to watch.

So now we come to yesterday, Wednesday and it was back to Uxbridge shopping with my friend Sam. First stop was of course for coffee and as I hadn't had any breakfast I also had a sausage roll, then we started our shopping and I have to say we did very well and had to make a trip back to the car to dump some bags in the boot because otherwise we wouldn't have been able to carry any more shopping and that would never do! I almost forgot, I bought myself a pair of jeans which is something I haven't done for years and was an extremely happy bunny as I bought a size smaller than I thought I was!! :D

We ended up back at Sam's for a cup of tea before I had to go and collect the kids from school! No night out last night decided on an earlyish one instead having read a bit more of my book Ender's Game, which I am really enjoying!

SLEEP OVERS - Why do kids always make such a mess???

So last night my 12 year old son James had a belated birthday sleep over with 3 mates. They had either KFC or Subway to eat and my other half Nigel took them to rent a dvd and buy snacks to eat while they watched. Luckily I'd managed to send my 7 year old daughter to her friends for the night.

They didn't go to sleep until the wee small hours, even with Nigel reading them the riot act!

This morning I was woken by the sounds of the four boys playing PS2 games so I went in only to find the room was a war zone and for breakfast they were eating popcorn and doritos and generally finishing off the snacks from the night before!

They've finally all gone home and I'm just left with the debris from the night before, which mainly consists of a carpet covered in toffee popcorn. I can't tell you how many times I've stepped on a bit of popcorn today :(

James being a typical male kept telling me not to worry the hoover will sort that lot out. I had to explain that hoovers can't easily pick up big bits of popcorn and it will have to be picked up by hand, at which point James promptly disappeared downstairs to watch the footie leaving me to tidy up!

Thank goodness birthdays only happen once a year!

EVER FEEL LIKE YOU SPEND YOUR LIFE AT THE DENTIST?

So far this week I have visited my dental surgery three times. The first time was a check up for the kids, my youngest Katie who is seven was a bit nervous but we have a lovely dentist called Nish who is great with the kids and soon put her at ease. My oldest James who is twelve was fine and not at all worried. (side note) my mum also has Nish as her dentist and on her first visit to him asked him to prove he was old enough to be a dentist (he does have a very youthful face) so he showed her his certificates!

So that was all fine except Katie needed her back teeth coated as they were now through, so it was back the next day for a visit to the hygienist. All was going well until the hygienist tried to squirt the gel to coat Katies teeth and unfortunately too much shot out and instead of coating a tooth poor Katie had her tongue coated instead, but she was really brave and didn't flinch or cry and received two bratz stickers instead of the usual one.

Finally, it was my turn on Friday for a visit to the hygienist. Why do these people insist on asking you questions when you have your mouth wide open and filled with various instruments of torture. I have now taken to blinking furiously in the hope that they can work out what I mean from that.

So with my purse £80 lighter you'd think that was it for another 6 months, but sadly I have to see the dentist next Thursday for a replacement filling. I knew I should have just brought a sleeping bag!!!

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING

So today I wandered off to Uxbridge to do a spot of Christmas shopping with my Mum. First stop was for coffee, well you can't zoom round the shops without a spot of caffeine inside you.

We were doing quite well until we got stopped by the beaming dead sea salt scrub salesman, who was on the cute side so we decided to let him do his spiel on us and demonstrate his scrub, which was pretty good it has to be said and amazingly reduced For Today Only!!! at the incredible reduction of £25 to £20! Hmmmmmm it was good but not £20 worth good so we said we'd go for lunch and have a think about it - you can guess what we decided!!

Sadly my shopping trip was cut short when I received a phone call from my son's school saying he was feeling poorly and so we had to leave the sparkle and tinsel of uxbridge and head to the school.

Now my other half asked me what I'd been up to today so I told him shopping in Uxbridge. "but you were only there with your friend on Monday" this was true but you can never have enough of shopping can you? "why didn't your Mum go with you then and save a trip?" I did explain that it takes much longer to shop and you buy less when you have more people with you and that obviously going on your own is the way to buy the most stuff, but it's so much more fun when you have a friend to chat with during the umpteen coffee breaks that are required :)

Men just don't understand the joys of shopping!

FIRST ATTEMPT

So this is my first ever attempt at a blog and I'm going to try and make it as interesting as I can.

I have a friend who introduces me to new things computer wise and I've learned a lot from him as I used to be a huge technophobe (still am if truth be told only just not quite so much) Anyway, he started writing a blog and I was impressed, it was funny, informative and covered a wide range of subjects. I can only aspire to write anything half as good as he does.

So I'm hoping something exciting or interesting will happen to me today that I can put into words.
